Initiative Information & Links
Initiative Instructions
Blank initiatives must be printed on Ledger size 11 x 17 paper and be double sided. If you cannot print them on your own you can e-mail us at Savevancouverstreets@gmail.com and we can get them to you. We will are currently working on organizing collections across the city, if you have an interest in helping or coordinating an area please let us know. We need to collect roughly 6,000 signatures and we need your help.
It is VERY IMPORTANT that if you help collect signatures that you ask every signer three important questions -
Do you live within the city limits of the City of Vancouver? (answer should be yes)
Are you registered to vote? (answer should be yes)
Have you already signed this initiative? (answer should be no)
Please consider helping, we need to reach out to friends, neighbors, co-workers etc to spread the word and reach our signature threshold.
If you go door to door, please respect signage if people have warnings to not solicit or enter.
If you try to collect at a business, please make sure you have permission from the business before setting up to collect there.
Talking Points
This is not anti bike, pedestrian or mobility lanes. This is asking our city council and staff to truly provide options and to listen to residents.
In many cases city staff has decided to remove lanes without any public input and the only public input being asked is what the design should look like after the lanes are removed.
There are options that could be considered which would not remove vehicle lanes which are not being considered such as :
Reduction of center medians.
Mobility lanes on one side of the street
Bus pull out lanes that do not block traffic (currently the plan is for bus stops to block traffic on single lanes rather than have pull out lanes)
These projects are coming to streets all over the city such as:
NE 112th / Chaklov
Main St
Fourth Plain
McGillivray
SE 34th
And many other streets are in long term plans such as 164th, Mill Plain etc.
We simply want our council and the staff to talk to us and provide true options. Vancouver is one of the only cities in the region that does not allow for open public testimony at city council meetings and does not provide e-mail addresses to talk to our city council members directly. This initiative simply asks the city to ask the residents to vote (which in turn would require them to talk to us and provide true options).
